Young children like things on the spooky side — but not too spooky. They still have fun with plays on words and things that are not quite what they seem! Imagination sells so you can slide in some healthy food with fun names!
Planning a Halloween play date with the preschool set can be really fun. Nothing scary for this age. I’m a fan of decorations, snacks and games centered around scarecrows, skeletons, spiders, pumpkins and black cats for little ones. Parties should be simple, quick and colorful with the emphasis on the fun activities and games with their friends.
Here’s a few winners from the snack table-
Mummy Dogs
6 precooked cheesy dogs or hot dogs
1 can crescent dough sheet
mustard
Preheat oven to 375 F degrees.
Unroll crescent dough and press perforated seams together.
Cut the dough into strips lengthwise.
With a paper towel wipe the excess moisture off the dogs.
Place one end of dough strip on the end the dog and fold it over to form a cap at the end.
Wrap the dough around, overlapping slightly. Allow the dough to stretch a bit and skip about 1/2 inch at the "head". Tuck the end under.
Place the finished mummy on a silpat or parchment lined cookie sheet.
Bake for 15-20 minutes until the mummies are golden brown.
For eyes pipe a little mustard! And there is your CUTENESS!!
Simon the Snake is made from pieces of string cheese alternating with cherry tomatoes. He has a cheddar slice tongue and eyes from black olive. Instead of cherry tomatoes, use chunks of ham, mini crackers, carrot or pepper slices or use a fruit theme with raspberries/strawberries and slices of banana.
For this fun lunch or snack, just add sliced olives and a dot of sour cream! |
As I wrote in my last blog - Wee Bear and I are off on a holiday this week!! We are flying into Prague, staying a few days, then driving to Nuremburg, where we will board a chartered river cruise, on the Danube, with friends to Budapest!! We are really excited, our first time on a river cruise!
I will be posting several Halloween blogs within the next week, in order to give you some terrific ideas for your Halloween parties or Mommy group gathering's! I am then taking a break until I get back from our holiday!!
